Guess I should explain what I am about and my journey to get here.
I live just outside Belfast and have been brewing for probably about 10 years off and on.
I started as i guess the majority of us do i bought a starter kit from my local home brew shop (Natures Way as it was at the time)
I made all the newbie mistakes perfect example being following the kit instructions (i really wish the kit manufactures would give realistic instructions). I am also man enough to admit i still make plenty of mistakes although the end result (with one exception so far) tend to be drinkable although sometimes in small amounts.
Over time i came to realize that no matter what i did i still got that homebrew twang that i strongly disliked.
I then signed up to The Homebrew forum which i found to be a good resource also watched a load of youtube videos and spent many an hour surfing as well.
While contemplating my next move i received a tax rebate which greatly helped my next step forward.
jumped straight in bought a boiler, cooler and a mashtun that was greater than my needs (had a fair idea i would upgrade quickly)
kinda skipped the extract or BIAB step which for me has worked fine.
First brew day was a steep learning curve though i did “cheat” and buy a mashkit for first attempt and although it tasted fine i missed targets bigtime and was a very low alcohol brew.
Half a dozen brews later decided if i was gonna spend 6 hrs brewing i might as well go larger so stainless 70ltr pot and burner purchased.
My logic so far has worked OK bigger volumes bigger burner so similar to my original set up time wise .Moving bigger weights about has proved interesting but possible so far.
Its gonna be a busy kinda week brewing wise as due to space restrictions and the amount of kit i have stashed in various locations ive ordered a shed to brew in.
So my blog is going to be my trials and tribulations from the point it arrives and hopefully provides me with the space i need.
